Residential Support Programs

Day Program

Our adult residents without jobs work in our “Day Program” which allows for social interaction with other residents in a supervised setting with a Direct Care worker who provides them with directed activities, e.g., arts and crafts, cooking, cleaning, etc. to provide them with life skills training to complement their daily routines.

Snoezelen Therapy

In 2000, St. Louis Center imported an idea from the Dutch called “Snoezelen” (sniff and doze), which provides sensory activities that are particularly effective for residents with Autism. The first of its kind in Michigan, this system creates a stimulating sensory environment utilizing color, light and sound that gives residents an opportunity to interact with their surroundings.  For those who are unable to engage in athletic events, this system helps to energize our residents in an active way to improve their quality of life.

Privacy Zone

Down the hall from the Snoezelen Room lies the “Privacy Zone.” This room is designed to accommodate the toileting and self-care needs of each individual living within the unit. The unit itself is self-contained, and carries all of the sanitary products that staff and residents need to prevent the spread of disease and infection, thereby maintaining a safe and clean environment.
